18 years experience in research in physics: Apprentice in the University of Oviedo, Research Assistant (Marie Curie Early Stage Researcher) and Research Associate in Lancaster University (UK), Juan de la Cierva Postdoc, Ramón y Cajal Postdoc and Assistant Professor (I3) in the University of Oviedo. Expert in first-principles simulations and theory of nanotechnology (quantum transport and electronic structure calculations of molecular electronics, graphene and other systems) and materials science (simulations and analytic calculations of electronic structure and magnetism in bulk systems and surfaces).

70 publications in international journals, including 1 Nature Materials, 2 Nature Nanotechnology, 2 Journal of the American Chemical Society and 3 Physical Review Letters, which have been cited more than 3.968 times (WOK) and given a H-index of 28. Speaker in 22 invited talks in national and international conferences Principal investigator in a Ramón y Cajal project, in one project of the Polish Government, in one project of the University of Oviedo, in two projects of the Spanish Supercomputing Network and in one project of the Spanish Government (Ministry of Science and Innovation). Various research stays in national and international centres (Autonomous University of Madrid, Adam Mickiewicz University and EPFL, among others). Author of two quantum transport codes (Smeagol and Gollum), which have been used by more than 200 research groups worldwide andhave given rise to two academic licenses. Author of one patent on DNA sensors.

Experience as organizer of research activities: various conferences and schools, including one international school in the European Centre for Atomic and Molecular Calculations (CECAM).
